Valentina Martínez Ferro
Valentina Martínez Ferro, PhD (Santiago de Compostela, 1976) has developed a solid career in the fields of international relations, foreign policy, and energy transition, both in the public and private sectors.
She is currently a board member of OIKOS, the first center-right think tank in Spain focused on climate change, energy, and the environment. She is also a Fellow of the Transatlantic Leadership Network (TLN) at Johns Hopkins University, where she develops international energy projects, and she coordinates the international area of Fundación Reformismo 21. Additionally, she teaches EU Public Policy at Francisco de Vitoria University and runs her own strategic and geopolitical consulting firm.
In the academic realm, she is a senior fellow at the Aspen Institute, a member of the Advisory Council of the European Council of Foreign Relations (ECFR), and a board member of Agrupación 1820 at the Ateneo de Madrid. She also participates as a political analyst on the “Hora 25” radio show on Cadena Ser and writes for the digital newspaper Artículo14.
In the political sphere, she served as the Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs for the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Spanish Congress of Deputies (2019-2023) and as Vice-President of the European People’s Party Group in the Council of Europe. She was also a member of the Council for Democratic Elections of the Venice Commission. Previously, she worked at the European Parliament and held key positions on Mariano Rajoy’s team at the Government Presidency. She also directed the International Secretariat of the Popular Party.
Among her most notable achievements, in 2022, President Zelensky awarded her the Order of Princess Olga for her support of Ukraine.
Regarding her academic background, she holds a PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and a Master’s in European Studies from the Catholic University of Leuven, among other qualifications and leadership programs completed at Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and Harvard University, where she was a Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
